Tourism Could Do More To Protect Marine And Coastal Environments Greenhotelier Reports

I think that Maria is true in this article. In fact many industries have abused of the ecosystem. The tourism and hotel industry did it too much also. We need to think different, and to be sensitive with this aspect.

This idea of ecology can be a really good Niche Market to use today. In fact, substainable development is increasing today and all the different label like Max Havelaar, or the material construction, self-cleaning of water... People feel more and more concerned about that because they are thinking of the future of the earth and to the future of their own children.
So, let's try to get the concept and to save the planet...

The importance of the website...

I think this article is really relevant because hotelier has to understand the new way of booking. In fact we are using more and more internet for booking and even if we use a travel agent like Opodo or expedia, we always take time to go directly on the hotel website in order to watch some picture, menu or activities...

So it's definitliy not so easy to create THE good website which will have a real impact on the future guest. The website actually need to reflect the hotel and the company name. It needs to make us dream and to create an imagination around this name.

Except for some big companies like Intercontinental or Accor who have some good webmaster, small independant hotels need to think about that in order to survey in this huge sector with many competitors.

New business for luxury goods brands.

Publié par Rémi

I think this article is really relevant, in fact so many luxury brand try to launch their own hotel. But the really thing is not a way to earn money with this new industry but it's only a way to promote and to make advertising for the luxury brand. It can allow some free advertising in the news and to create some new point of sales where the richest people of the world will spend a night. But the thing is to be carefull in the way to do it because every single people is not expert in hotel industry.

So, it's actually a good thing to create a partnership or a licensing with a hotel company.

Restructuration in hotel industry...

Since few years, we can assist to many changement inside the hotel industry, pension funds are becoming shareholder of many hotel group, Colony Capital for Accor, Starwood for Le Meridien...

We assist today at the restructuration of the Acor Company, in fact they realize since a while that it was not a good idea to develop the Sofitel brand anymore. This brand was not really relevant for the company, in term of turn over but also of image.

They started Sofitel as business hotel on motorroad and around big cities... But since few years they have decided to develop it as luxurious 4 stars hotels in the main capital around the world.

The problem now is that they invested a lot of money in order to develop this brand but people are not ready to spend enough money for this name because the product doesn't fit its image.

So, they have decided to sell all the Sofitel to get some funds in order to invest in other brand in new countries like China, South America...

My opinion is that it's good to try to develop in every segment in order to reach a maximum of guests but in many case it's becoming difficult to keep good benefits.

The arrival of pension funds can be a good thing to permit a really efficiency and effectiveness in hotel industry.
